Welcome to Useless Knowledge!

Well, I guess I'm going to discuss the other thing that I'm upset about. Maybe upset isn't the right word. I just don't understand it.

While we were home for Thanksgiving, my husband's sister came over for dinner on Thanksgiving day. Now, years ago she would have jumped right in, helping to cook, and the helping clean up the mess afterwards. This year, she came in, put her dish down that she had brought, went into the front room and watched football until the meal was ready. She ate, making the appropriate small talk, and after the meal was over, she went right back into the living room to watch more football, never once offering to help clean up anything. My husband and I did it all. You can't talk to her about anything anymore, and she used to be so much fun, and so nice to be around. If she's not happy, I wish she would just tell me She always used to share her feelings with me.

My husband thinks she is just acting uppity because she is going for her master's degree. Now, I've known people who got all uppity once they get their degree, but I've known just as many who didn't.

She has been divorced about 5 years, and it was her doing. Her husband did not want her to leave, and I think he still wants her back. She just seems angry about everything all the time. I know it shouldn't make me mad, and I should be more understanding, but damn it, I miss the person she used to be.

Am I being totally insensitive, or too sensitive, or what?

I'm mad about a couple of things. One I'll discuss today, the other, well, I haven't decided if maybe I'm just being too sensitive, so I'm going to give it some more time.

Thanksgiving was nice. We went to Illinois to spend the holiday with our families. We ate way too much food, and spent a great deal of time in the car, but all in all we had a great time. We just got back a little while ago, and we are very tired.

While we were there, I asked my sister and her family if they were going to see the Harry Potter movie. They said no, it was against the Bible and the word of God, and Harry Potter was evil, etc. Now, when I asked if they were going to see the Lord of the Rings movie, they can hardly wait for it to come out. Can someone please explain the difference to me? Lord of the Rings has magic and wizards in it, just like Harry Potter. How can one be evil, and one be perfectly okay? I felt like asking her if she allowed her children to watch The Wizard of Oz, or read Shakespeare (double double, toil and trouble). This really angers me. They have never read the books, and are ready to condem (sp) them. I'm not sure why Harry Potter is the one catching all the flack.

Thanks very much to Karen and Anne for remembering my birthday. That was very sweet of you both!
